The Machame Route is one of the most scenic and popular trails to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey Route” for its more adventurous and physically demanding nature, this trail offers stunning views, a rich variety of landscapes, and good acclimatization. The route requires camping, with experienced crews setting up tents and preparing meals each day.

Hike starts after registration at Machame Gate. Walk through lush rainforest. Trail may be muddy/slippery.

Steady climb with amazing views. You leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone.

This is an acclimatization day. You hike up to Lava Tower, then descend to Barranco Camp to sleep lower.

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, then descend and cross valleys to Karanga Camp.

A short but steep hike to Barafu Camp. Early dinner and rest for summit night.

Summit attempt starts around midnight. Pass Stella Point (5,739 m) and reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate, then descend back to Mweka Camp.

Final descent to Mweka Gate. Receive summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha
