The Marangu Route is the most established trail on Mount Kilimanjaro, often called the “Coca-Cola Route” for its relative comfort and popularity. It is the only route offering hut accommodations, making it an appealing choice for climbers who prefer a roof over their heads. This 6-day itinerary is perfect for trekkers seeking a shorter, less rugged experience while still aiming for the summit of Africa’s highest mountain.

Hike begins after registration at Marangu Gate. Walk through dense rainforest with possible sightings of monkeys and tropical birds.
Overnight: Mandara Hut

Habitat: Moorland
Ascend through changing vegetation from forest to moorland. Enjoy beautiful views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Overnight: Horombo Hut
Optional hike to Mawenzi Ridge (~4,300 m) and back

Purpose: Acclimatization (adjusting to high altitude)

Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Terrain becomes dry and rocky. Early dinner and rest before summit attempt at midnight.

Habitat: Arctic to Moorland
Start your final ascent around midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point at sunrise, then trek to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Take in the breathtaking view, then descend to Horombo for overnight rest.

Complete your descent through the rainforest. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, receive your certificate of achievement. Meet your driver and return to your hotel.
